how it all started
A NOTE FROM THE BARISTA
It all started back in 2013 at Starbucks. Something that started off as just a job turned into a passion for sharing amazing coffee with people. After a few years of the corporate coffee world and becoming a "Coffee Master" there it was time to take the talents I learned into the speciality coffee scene. That happened in 2017 when that scene was still new to the area. I have had the opportunity and privilege of being a part of the specialty scene at various independent cafes and contributing to the growth and success of the third wave of coffee here for many years. It was always a goal since the green apron days to eventually open my own coffee spot but I honestly thought it would never happen. It was always just a day dream. But then, literally out of nowhere, it happened. In 2022 Slow Hurry Coffee became official. I did not have the means to open a brick and mortar and let's be honest, operating a brick and mortar is not easy in the world we live in today. I decided that being an independent barista was what I truly wanted to do and so the roaming coffee bar was born.
An old regular (from the Starbucks days) once told me that coffee, for him, was a daily ceremony and our conversation that day completely changed how I looked at the whole world of coffee. He articulated what I was still trying to sort out: that the daily ritual of drinking coffee and the coffee itself should be celebrated.
Slow Hurry was formed as a way to always stay connected to coffee and a way for me to ensure I can serve my community for many more years to come. The cliché saying of "coffee connects people" is true and Slow Hurry's aim is to now connect the people back to the coffee. I believe in celebrating the coffee's journey to your cup, because it was a long one. It passed through so many hands, it was cared for and tended to by so many people before it got to its final destination: a barista who truly loves coffee and wants to share it with you.
